一、使用语境不同

1、当所述条件要引出一种新的想法或情况时，用if not。

如：

I’ll be angry if I’m not invited to the party. 

如果不邀请我参加晚会，我会生气的。

2、当要引出一个表示假想的条件句时，用if not。

如：

If he weren’t so silly, he would understand.

在英语中，but除了最常用的表示转折关系外还有以下几种常见用法：

一、but用法连词，表示让步关系，意思是“除非，要不是”，常与that一起构成but that, 相当于"if...not"。 例如：I would have failed but that your helped me.要不是你们帮助我，我就会失败。
